At first it feels relative to a mosquito bite, but not as the same with an ant bite. Upon piercing through, the patient may feel a tingling sensation. That is the needle reaching the nerves or tendons on the muscles.

Some acu-points may feel a bit "heavy", where the patient may feel like his/her muscles are stiffenning. It is important for the patient to stay calm and relaxed for his/her muscles to relax as well.

3. Drowsiness or feeling sleepy.

When this happens, it is usually due to one or all of these following factors:

a. The patient is sleep-deprived and/or is under stress

b. The patient is hungry before and during the treatment

How many needles would it take per treatment?

The number of needles depend on the condition or ailment which needs treatment. In some cases, less is more where fewer needles provide the most effectiveness. However, the acupuncturist may use stronger points which may have a heavier feeling than usual acupuncture points.
